Brayden

I promise I will try & update soon - we have had so much going on...
* Fun days rides & parade
* Brayden's 1st time swimming
* Camping @ Kamp Dels
(horse ride, waterpark, Christmas in July & more)
* Como zoo

Brayden had his 4 month check a couple weeks ago (Monday the 12th) and he is doing great - except he still has a flat spot on the right side. I asked Dr. Benson (our family dr) about it & he said "his hair would cover it". After getting home it still really bothered me. Then after talking to my girlfriend that her son had a helmet & auntie Katie we decided to go in & get a 2nd opinion. We went in on the 19th and saw pediatrics Dr. William (really nice dr). He said Brayden defiantly has Positional Plagiocephaly. At this point in his age he is still young enough they can fix it with a helmet, but it will not fix itself. He gave us a referral & we headed up to Gillette Children's yesterday

Well ... Children's confirmed he does have positional plagiocephaly (a flat head) BUT what we did find out he has it because he also has torticollis... it is where he doesn't really use the mussle in the one side of his neck (usually because of the way he was postioned inside of me)... so what does all that mean??? He doesn't "look" to his left, he rolls to the left, but won't turn to the left....

So yesterday Brayden got measured & had a "head scan" done of his head for a helmet & then we headed downstairs for some physical therapy. At P.T. they showed us 5 or 6 different things we need to do with him every day.

We go back on the 9th of August to get Brayden fitted for his helmet & he should come home with it, followed by a half hour of P.T.

One person told us he could have it on 2-3 months & one said 3-4... so we are not totally sure? We go back the week after the 9th for a check up to make sure his helmet is fitting the way it is suppose to & see how things are going for mom & dad as well. From there we have to go back every 2 week for a helmet check & P.T.

I will keep everyone posted as we go along....

Our son had a helmet because of how he laid as a baby - unfortunately when we got him at 8 months it was already too late to make major improvements on his poor little head! He wore a helmet for a year! It worked some but would have worked more if his Bio parents would have been more proactive.
Good for you for going with your gut feeling and seeing another Doctor!
Good Luck - I am sure Brayden wont even notice it. Kids are so resilient.

Hey Sara, Ask if chirporactic care would help those muscles at all? My nephew seemed to tilt head to side all the time and chirporactic care really helped it. Nothing ever diagnosed by MD though. Take Care, Kaitlin Forst

Oh Poor Baby! I'm glad you went with your mommy instinct and got a second opinion! Mommy always knows best! :-)
